BULKINGTON, NUNEATON AND BEDWORTH U3A
Educational Courses, Interest Groups, Amusement Activities, and Social Clubs
ALL THIS CAN BE FOUND IN YOUR AREA IN THE ORGANISATION KNOWN AS THE BNBU3A. IT IS AN ORGANISATION TAILORED FOR THE RETIRED OR SEMI-RETIRED TO LEARN, DEVELOP AND SHARE INTERESTS WITH LIKE MINDED PEOPLE
The U3A is an International movement with a very large UK-wide element. It was set up to bring together people in their ‘third age’ to develop their interests and continue their learning in a friendly and informal environment. If you’re wondering what we mean by the ‘third age’ - it is a time after you have finished working full-time or raising your family and have time to pursue your interests or just try something new.
A U3A group was set up in Nuneaton, Bulkington, and Bedworth (BNB) about 10 years ago and in that time has set up over 20 courses, interest groups, craft courses and social activities suited to those in retirement or semi-retirement. The aim was to find people who want to come together to continue their educational, social and creative interests in a friendly and informal environment. The current courses, interest groups and social functions that are served by the BNB U3A are:
Poetry Reading Group
Ten-Pin Bowling Group
Ancient Greek History
Family History Group
Patchwork and Quilting
Local History Group
Ancient Roman History
Social Events Group
The courses are open to all and if you would like to join us then come along to a session. Each attendance has a group subscription of £2.00 and if you decide it is for you then membership is necessary. The annual joining fee is £24 for a couple per year. This fee allows you to attend any interest group in the BNB region.

The U3A national body – the Third Age Trust - looks after all the U3As in the UK, providing educational and administrative support and is a registered charity. To see the U3A web-site for details click here
THE INTEREST GROUPS AND ACTIVITIES
Below is a time table of the Interest Groups that are currently taking place in BNBU3A. Go to the Interest Group tabs on this site to get some information on the activities of all of the current groups. There you will find contact numbers of group leaders, times and venues, and other useful information.
The Groups are the ‘property’ of the group members and if you wish to extend or modify the group’s content in any way then discuss it with the group leader and group members. If the activity is not catered for why not start up your own group under the umbrella of the local BNB U3A? This is easy to do and the committee will help you to do this as well as providing training on the administrative mechanics and what is expected from you in this role. Then all you need is to attract some members. We will help you do this as well.
The Committee are all group leaders of one or more groups and are happy to talk to anyone about joining, setting up a new group or just sorting out issues that arise in the best of organisations.
The governance of the BNB U3A is transparent with meeting dates (with agenda) published on the web-site along with minutes of the meetings a few weeks later. Members are encouraged to attend, where at the end of the formal meeting process, they can raise any issue or ask any questions that they see as important or relevant to the running of the BNB.
The website has a news page where news of meetings, group news, notices and other information is presented and updated regularly. It also contains information on the groups currently active with contact information if needed.
