April Meeting - English Civil War in Warwickshire

Event type: Meeting
Date: 15/04/2025
Time: 2:00 pm
Venue: Bulkington Community and Conference Centre
Organiser:

This will be a historical talk about this topic from Greg Archer, who is an established authority on this and related topics and is co-chair of the Mercia Region of the Battlefields Trust.

Many will be familiar with places such as Shakespeare's Stratford, the magnificent Warwick Castle and other well known sites around Warwickshire. What is less known is the part that many of these places played during the tumultuous years of 1642-46 during the English Civil War. In the first part of this talk Gregg Archer will talk about the military events of the war within the county of Warwickshire and their significance within the wider conflict. Using the Warwickshire Loss Accounts, and other sources, in the second part he will talk about what was happening in the Bulkington Parish and the local area and what the information can tell us about the people who were living there at the time and the events they witnessed.

Gregg Archer is the co-chair of the Mercia Region of The Battlefields Trust. When not working his day job in the hospitality industry he is researching the smaller and lesser known engagements of the Civil Wars in the 17th Century. Gregg is the author of "The Battle of Middleton Cheney, 6th May 1643" published by the Northamptonshire Battlefields Society and his research on the 1645 battle of Radcot Bridge was previously published in Volume 1 of the Battlefields Trust Journal “Battalia”.
