Sir John Moore, born in Norton Juxta Twycross, was Lord Mayor of London in 1682. He funded two schools in the area during 1690 – one being the school at Appleby Magna – reputedly designed by Sir Christopher Wren.
This building was designated Grade 1 status in 1952, and still serves as a school today – hence our visit in August.
Our guide will tell us the history of the building, and point out the various aspects of Wren’s Innovative School design.
There are a number of stairs to the museum itself which is on the top floor, but there is a short film of what's in the museum, which can be shown in the accessible gallery meeting room when the actual tour is taking place.
There will be refreshments after the tour.
