Winterbourne is an Arts and Crafts villa and gardens, built in the early
1900s for the Nettlefold family (part of Guest, Keen and Nettlefold – GKN).
In 1944 it was bequeathed by its latest owner, John Nicolson, to the
University of Birmingham.
The house became accommodation for female students, and the grounds became the botanic gardens for the university.
We can have a guided tour of the gardens if 15 or more people are interested (additional cost of £7.00 per person) – otherwise we can visit the gardens without the tour. There is a café in the grounds, open from 10.30 am, which serves light refreshments and lunches.
