The 1620s House (formerly known as Donnington le Heath House) is a 13th century building now furnished as it would have been in the 17th century. Each room is furnished in 17th century style, and you can touch and explore all the exhibits. Tablets showing narrated films and photos of the upstairs rooms are also available for those who do not wish to climb the steep stairs.
The house has been home to many families over the years and they each have a story to tell. One of the most well-known was the Digby family – related to Sir Everard Digby who was one of the conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot.
The gardens are also set out as they would have been in the early 1600s, with labelled plants and flowers, herb garden and an orchard. There is also a modern-day tea room which opens at 11.00 am!!
